Dasman Diabetes Institute and Zain Kuwait Forge Partnership to Accelerate Digital Health Innovation

Dasman Diabetes Institute, part of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zain Kuwait to advance collaboration in health innovation, science, and technology—particularly in diabetes care. The agreement supports Kuwait’s national efforts to enhance quality of life and reduce health risks through next-generation digital solutions.

The MoU was signed by Dr Faisal Hamed Al-Refaei, Acting Director General of Dasman Diabetes Institute, and Nawaf Al-Gharabally, CEO of Zain Kuwait. Both leaders emphasized that the partnership will drive new research and technology initiatives rooted in scientific analytics and executed in cooperation with global partners such as Huawei and Harvard University.

Dr Al-Refaei explained that the agreement includes launching a pilot project that provides smart Huawei devices to help people with diabetes monitor vital indicators, strengthen preventive care, and access a secure digital health platform managed by Dasman Diabetes Institute with strict privacy oversight. The collaboration will also expand scientific research between Dasman, Kuwait University, and a Harvard University laboratory, with Zain offering technology support.

Nawaf Al-Gharabally highlighted that the partnership reflects Zain’s belief in purposeful collaboration that turns technology into meaningful impact. By combining Zain’s digital capabilities with Dasman’s leadership in healthcare, the initiative aims to encourage healthier lifestyles, strengthen preventive awareness, and deliver more connected health experiences. He added that this aligns with Zain’s purpose of “Lasting Connections, Better Lives” and supports Kuwait’s national development priorities through technological innovation.

The collaboration reinforces Dasman Diabetes Institute’s central role in health research and Zain’s ongoing commitment to enabling digital transformation across vital sectors. Through advanced connectivity, secure platforms, and scalable digital services, Zain aims to empower institutions and communities with tools that promote healthier, better-informed living.

Zain continues to grow its network of strategic partnerships to meet evolving community needs, leveraging next-generation networks, data-driven capabilities, and enterprise solutions to support sustainable, high-impact initiatives that benefit individuals, society, and the broader economy.
