Algerian travel-tech startup Völz has raised approximately $5 million (DZD 600 million) in a new funding round led by Tell Group and Groupe Industriel Babahoum Algérie (GIBA). The transaction marks the first successful exit for the state-backed Algerian Startup Fund, highlighting growing investor confidence in Algeria’s startup ecosystem.
Founded in 2022 by Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi and Hacene Seghier, Völz operates as an online travel agency designed to address structural challenges in Algeria’s travel market. The platform enables users to book international flights while paying in Algerian dinar, helping overcome foreign currency and international payment constraints.
Völz also offers cash-on-delivery and offline-friendly payment options, targeting unbanked users and those hesitant to rely on digital payments. These features aim to broaden access to international travel booking across diverse consumer segments.
The new funding will be used to automate backend operations, reduce booking errors, expand the technical team, and strengthen the platform’s scalability. Völz recently partnered with Turkish Airlines, gaining access to corporate rates and the airline’s partner ecosystem, with plans to expand into higher-margin B2B travel services.
According to CEO Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi, the investment will accelerate the company’s mission to simplify and democratise travel access for Algerian users.
