The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) to accelerate the adoption and implementation of the Riyadh Charter on Artificial Intelligence across ICESCO’s 53 member states. The agreement was signed at SDAIA’s headquarters in Riyadh by SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi and ICESCO Director-General Dr. Salim Al-Malik.
The partnership aims to establish a unified, ethical, and responsible framework for AI governance across the Islamic world, while encouraging innovation and addressing common challenges related to artificial intelligence. Cooperation will focus on joint initiatives aligned with the principles of the Riyadh Charter, including integrity and fairness, privacy and security, reliability and safety, transparency and accountability, humanitarian values, and social and environmental benefits.
The agreement also seeks to strengthen AI knowledge, skills, and national capacities within member states, ensuring the safe and responsible use of AI technologies. ICESCO’s Strategic Foresight and Artificial Intelligence Center highlighted that the Riyadh Charter provides a forward-looking governance framework rooted in humanitarian values and aligned with the cultural and civilizational foundations of the Islamic world, while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
