Dubai Film Development Committee Sets Strategic Priorities to Strengthen the Emirate’s Film Ecosystem

Dubai’s newly formed Film Development Committee has held its first official meeting at the Dubai Media Council headquarters, marking an important step in advancing the emirate’s film sector. Established under the Dubai Media Council, the committee reviewed its mandate, operating framework, and strategic priorities aimed at supporting sustainable growth across the film industry.

The discussion focused on strengthening Dubai’s film ecosystem by building on existing advantages while addressing practical industry needs spanning production, talent development, and cross-sector collaboration. Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, said the committee will play a central role in realising the leadership’s vision for a creativity-led knowledge economy, highlighting film as one of the most promising segments within Dubai’s media landscape.

She underscored Dubai’s competitiveness as a global production hub, supported by advanced digital infrastructure, flexible regulations, efficient logistics, and its strategic geographic position linking regional and international markets. These factors, she noted, enable scalable film production, long-term sector growth, and deeper engagement with global partners.

Issam Kazim, Chairman of the Dubai Film Development Committee, said the committee is focused on translating strategy into tangible outcomes. Early priorities include developing specialised training programmes, streamlining filming and production processes, and strengthening cooperation between public and private stakeholders, as well as with local and international production companies.

Formed under Dubai Media Council Resolution No. (8) of 2025, issued in November, the committee is tasked with delivering tailored services, facilities, and coordinated support for the film industry. It will work closely with government entities, studios, and filmmakers to expand opportunities for emerging talent and enhance Dubai’s global appeal as a destination for film and media production.
