Nepal Telecom (NTC) has announced a scheduled migration of user data to a new Short Message Service Center (SMSC) system, a move that may temporarily affect SMS services across the network.
According to the operator, the data migration will take place on Poush 29–30 (January 13–14) between 11:30 PM and 04:20 AM. During this window, SMS services may experience interruptions or delays. NTC has apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused to customers.
Subscribers who rely on SMS for time-sensitive communication are advised to complete important message exchanges earlier in the evening to avoid potential disruption. The company noted that the process could be completed swiftly, but brief service impact remains possible.
SMSC, or Short Message Service Center, is the core system responsible for storing, routing, and delivering text messages between devices. It acts as the central hub for all SMS transactions, ensuring messages reach their intended destinations.
By migrating to a new SMSC platform, Nepal Telecom aims to make its messaging services more reliable, faster, and more secure, strengthening the foundation for everyday communication across the country.
