Pakistan, UAE agree to boost ties in investment, trade, telecom

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a series of high-level engagements in Dubai aimed at strengthening Pakistan–UAE economic and strategic cooperation, with a focus on investment, trade, and telecommunications.

During his visit, Dar met Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of Etisalat and the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance. The discussions centered on expanding UAE investment in Pakistan and deepening bilateral ties across priority sectors, reflecting a shared intent to elevate economic engagement.

A key focus of the meeting was Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL). Long-standing operational and future development issues were reviewed in detail, alongside Etisalat’s investment and expansion plans in Pakistan. Both sides agreed on the importance of resolving outstanding PTCL-related matters at the earliest. Dar urged swift settlement to unlock stronger, sustained cooperation and create momentum for future investments.

Separately, Dar received a telephone call from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The two leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments and agreed to maintain close consultations.

Araghchi thanked Pakistan for its stance at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, including its vote and demand for a formal vote on a resolution concerning Iran. He also conveyed appreciation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government, and the people of Pakistan for their continued support.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan–Iran relations and agreed to sustain regular engagement on regional and international issues.
