Gulf Edge, the digital infrastructure arm of Thailand’s Gulf Energy Development, has announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to transform Gulf Group and its affiliates into AI-native organisations, with Thai telecom operator AIS serving as the first and flagship model.

Under the collaboration, AIS will undergo an enterprise-wide AI transformation using Gemini Enterprise to build a next-generation agentic AI platform. The platform will unify extensive network, operational, and customer data into a secure, compliant, and scalable environment, enabling AI agents to move beyond basic automation and orchestrate intelligent, end-to-end business responses.

Gulf Edge said the initiative will reimagine customer service and operational decision-making. AIS plans to deploy Google’s AI models and cloud solutions across both digital and physical touchpoints, including its myAIS app and AI-enhanced service centres, setting new benchmarks for customer satisfaction.

Employees will gain access to intelligent tools that automate routine tasks, freeing them to focus on high-value interactions. This is expected to deliver more responsive, personalised engagement and faster, smarter digital services.

Once AIS’s transformation is complete, Gulf Group intends to replicate the model across its broader portfolio and ecosystem partners.

As part of the agreement, Gulf Edge will act as a strategic go-to-market partner for Google Cloud’s enterprise-grade agentic AI and sovereign cloud technologies. The partners will also establish a dedicated Data Analytics and AI Center of Excellence to build deep technical and implementation expertise within Gulf Edge.

The hub will develop industry- and solution-specific frameworks on Google Cloud tailored to sectors such as retail, finance, and manufacturing, positioning Gulf Group as a catalyst for large-scale enterprise AI adoption across Thailand.

Sarath Ratanavadi, CEO of Gulf Development Public Company Limited, said the partnership places Gulf and its affiliates at the forefront of AI-driven transformation.

“By combining our infrastructure strengths and delivery capabilities with Google’s world-class technology, we aim to empower both the public and private sectors with transformative AI capabilities that elevate national digital competitiveness and drive long-term equitable economic and GDP growth,” he said.

The announcement follows Google Cloud’s launch of its new Bangkok cloud region, offering in-country access to cloud services and AI technologies through three availability zones.

Gulf Energy Development became AIS’s largest stakeholder after merging with sister company Intouch Holdings, which owned 40.44 percent of AIS, in 2024.
