Pakistan and Sri Lanka have launched a new digital partnership with the establishment of a Joint Working Group on IT and Digital Economy, aimed at deepening collaboration in emerging technologies and digital transformation.
The initiative was announced during the 13th session of the Pakistan–Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission held in Colombo, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties and expanding cooperation across priority sectors. Pakistan’s delegation was led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Officials from both countries emphasized the need to move beyond traditional cooperation and build partnerships in advanced and innovative technologies. Discussions also covered expanding industrial collaboration, boosting bilateral trade, and encouraging Sri Lankan investment outreach to Pakistani pharmaceutical companies.
The two sides reached consensus on enhancing cooperation in the SME sector, recognizing its importance for economic growth and job creation. Progress was also noted in agriculture and livestock cooperation, including meat and seed trade, as well as in finalizing procedures for Sri Lankan pineapple and avocado exports to Pakistan.
