China has successfully launched the AlSat-3B remote-sensing satellite for Algeria aboard a Long March 2C rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, the satellite will work alongside AlSat-3A, launched earlier this year, to provide high-resolution data for land-use planning, agriculture, environmental monitoring, geological surveys, and disaster prevention.
The mission is part of a 2023 agreement between China Great Wall Industry Corporation and the Algerian Space Agency to supply two optical remote-sensing satellites, complete ground systems, training, and technical support. The programme builds on earlier cooperation that included the launch of Algeria’s Alcomsat-1 communications satellite in 2017.
