Indosat’s AI security tool blocks more than 2bn spam and scam attempts

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) has announced that its AI-powered cybersecurity solution has detected and blocked more than two billion spam and scam attempts across its network, marking a significant step in its efforts to enhance customer protection.

The anti-spam and anti-scam feature, developed in partnership with Tanla and powered by the Wiseley AI platform, targets threats such as OTP fraud, phishing messages, and fake lottery schemes, which are commonly delivered through SMS and voice calls. The operator noted that scam activity typically increases during festive periods.

Approximately 2.5 million users have activated the service through the IOH mobile application, with more than 124,000 fraudulent incidents reported. The company estimates the system has helped prevent up to $500 million in potential financial losses, while 95% of users reported feeling more secure using the feature.

Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, described the initiative as an example of effective collaboration in building safer digital ecosystems. IOH CEO Vikram Sinha added that the AI-driven approach enables threats to be filtered at the network level before reaching customers, reinforcing the operator’s focus on practical, customer-centric innovation.
