OHIO – 21 February 2026: Germany-based Suse, a global leader in enterprise open source solutions, has acquired Losant, an Ohio-headquartered Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform provider, in a move aimed at accelerating industrial edge modernisation.
The acquisition strengthens Suse’s Edge strategy by extending its capabilities from the Near and Far Edge to the Tiny Edge, enabling deeper integration where digital systems directly interact with physical assets.
With the addition of Losant, Suse aims to deliver a full-stack open process automation platform for IIoT, designed to break down traditional industrial silos and provide real-time insights and actionable intelligence. The combined offering integrates interoperability, open source economics and AI-driven capabilities operating at the edge.
According to 451 Research, part of S&P Global, IoT endpoints are increasingly evolving into AI-enabled endpoints, driven by more cost-efficient connectivity and a significant device refresh cycle. This shift is accelerating hybrid AI architectures that position the edge as a critical execution layer, supporting performance, scalability and semi-autonomous industrial systems.
Keith Basil, General Manager of Suse Edge, said the acquisition transforms Suse from an edge infrastructure provider into a full-stack Industrial IoT leader. He noted that Losant enables Suse to operate at the point where machines, environments and people intersect, allowing AI to generate meaningful operational insight in real time.
He added that combining Suse’s Edge portfolio and products such as Suse AI with Losant’s platform will support closer collaboration with industrial partners, equipment manufacturers and open source communities.
Charlie Key, CEO of Losant, described the deal as a natural progression, highlighting that the integration of Losant’s low-code IIoT platform with Suse’s enterprise software expertise will enhance stability, interoperability and speed of deployment for customers seeking operational value from complex data environments.
The Losant platform expands Suse’s Edge portfolio beyond infrastructure into operational execution, combining device orchestration, data management and application enablement with Suse’s core technologies to connect operational systems with enterprise workflows and analytics.
