ITU Raises Over $82 Billion to Expand Global Digital Connectivity

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has announced that it has successfully raised more than $82 billion through its Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition.

This initiative aims to increase internet access in Nigeria and other regions worldwide, tackling the ongoing challenge of the digital divide.

As the United Nations’ specialized agency for digital technologies, ITU launched the P2C coalition to foster collaboration between governments, private companies, and organizations. The funds raised are intended to enhance infrastructure, provide affordable internet services, and support digital inclusion programs, particularly in underserved communities.

ITU emphasized that bridging the digital divide is essential for economic growth, education, healthcare, and overall social development. By ensuring more people have access to the internet, the coalition hopes to empower communities and create opportunities for innovation and connectivity across the globe.

With this significant funding, ITU plans to implement large-scale projects that will improve both rural and urban connectivity, strengthen technological capacity, and support digital literacy initiatives. Experts suggest that such initiatives could transform the digital landscape in countries like Nigeria, where internet penetration remains uneven.

In addition, the P2C Digital Coalition seeks to engage local stakeholders in designing solutions tailored to their communities, ensuring that digital access benefits everyone equitably.
