Oman’s Digital Leap: 2,000 Services Digitized as Digital Economy Eyes 10% GDP Goal

Oman is rapidly transforming its economic landscape, shifting from traditional models to a high-tech, innovation-driven engine. According to Dr. Ali bin Amer al Shidani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Sultanate has successfully digitized over 2,000 government services between 2021 and 2025. This digital push resulted in a staggering 48 million transactions in 2025 alone—a 78% increase over the previous year—signaling a massive shift in how citizens and businesses interact with the state.

The strategy is backed by impressive global standing; Oman now ranks 18th globally among the fastest-growing digital economies according to the 2026 Global Digital Economy Report. With the digital sector currently contributing roughly 2% to the GDP, the government has set aggressive targets: 3% by 2025 and a ambitious 10% by 2040. To fuel this growth, the “National Digital Economy Programme” has been integrated as a core pillar of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on ICT investments, software development, and specialized labor. In 2025, nearly 1,300 Omanis were placed in high-level technical roles, ensuring that the nation’s digital future is built by local talent.
