Digital platforms reshape Ramadan charity giving in Saudi Arabia

Digital platforms are transforming charitable giving in Saudi Arabia, with mobile apps and online systems becoming the dominant channel for donations during Ramadan.

Charities report a significant shift toward digital contributions, with more than 50% of donations now made through apps and platforms. This trend is being driven by convenience, accessibility, and increased trust in digital systems, particularly during Ramadan when charitable giving traditionally peaks.

National platforms such as Ehsan, which has raised around $4 billion since 2021, and Jood Eskan are playing a central role in this transformation. These platforms enable instant donations, allow users to track impact, and provide visibility into how funds are allocated.

For donors, digital tools have simplified the giving experience, making it possible to contribute to multiple causes with a single click. This has led to a rise in smaller but more frequent donations, particularly among younger, tech-savvy users.

For charities, digitalisation has improved operational efficiency, reduced costs, and accelerated aid delivery. Integrated systems such as ERP and donation management platforms enhance transparency, allowing organisations to share real-time updates and detailed impact reports.

The shift is also expanding the donor base and strengthening trust, as regulated platforms ensure governance and accountability through oversight by the National Center for Non-Profit Sector Development.
