Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison reported a more than 20% year-on-year increase in data traffic during Indonesia’s 2026 Eid homecoming season, reflecting rising connectivity demand as millions travelled across the country.
The surge aligns with government projections of up to 40% national telecom traffic growth during Ramadan and Eid. Traffic spikes were particularly high from Jakarta դեպի West Java (over 22%) and Central Java (over 37%), highlighting heavy movement along key homecoming routes.
Despite the increased load, Indosat maintained strong network performance, reducing downtime by 20%. The operator leveraged its AI-powered network across 77 major routes spanning over 8,100 km, supported by 797 strategic locations and more than 2,500 engineers deployed nationwide.
User behavior during the period showed increased reliance on digital communication and entertainment, with WhatsApp, TikTok, and YouTube seeing the highest usage spikes.
Positioning itself as an AI-driven telecom company, Indosat utilized real-time monitoring and predictive analytics to identify congestion over 60% faster and automatically optimize network capacity. Its 4G and 5G networks worked in tandem, ensuring stable baseline performance while handling peak demand efficiently.
The network upgrade efforts included over 7,000 capacity enhancements, more than 1,600 new sites, and deployment of 75 mobile base stations. This brought Indosat’s total infrastructure to over 55,000 active sites across 420+ regions.
The company stated that the performance during the Eid period underscores its ongoing transformation into an AI-TechCo, focused on delivering resilient, high-quality connectivity during critical national events.
