Bahrain Telecom Consumers Report Higher Satisfaction as TRA Survey Highlights Service Quality Improvements

Bahrain’s telecommunications sector continues to deliver stronger customer experiences, with consumers reporting improved satisfaction across network coverage, service transparency and digital engagement, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) 2025 Consumer Experience Survey.

The nationwide survey, conducted among 3,000 residential consumers, evaluated customer experiences across network performance, service channels, customer support and complaint handling. The findings provide a comprehensive assessment of Bahrain’s telecommunications market while offering regulators and operators actionable insights to further improve service quality and consumer protection.

Compared with the previous survey conducted in 2022, the results indicate meaningful progress in several key performance areas, reflecting continued investment by operators in network infrastructure and customer experience.

Network Performance Continues to Improve

The survey found that consumers remain largely satisfied with the reliability and quality of telecommunications services across Bahrain.

Among the most significant improvements since 2022 were higher levels of customer satisfaction with outdoor network coverage, which increased by 13%, and indoor network coverage, which improved by 11%. These gains reflect ongoing investments in mobile infrastructure, spectrum optimization and network modernization.

Reliable indoor and outdoor connectivity has become increasingly important as consumers rely on mobile broadband for remote work, digital entertainment, financial services and cloud-based applications.

Digital Customer Experience Gains Momentum

Beyond network quality, consumers reported positive experiences with digital service channels and customer support interactions.

The survey highlighted stronger satisfaction with digital engagement platforms, demonstrating the growing importance of self-service portals, mobile applications and online customer support in today’s telecommunications landscape.

Service transparency also improved significantly, with the proportion of consumers expressing high satisfaction increasing by 11% compared with the previous survey. Greater transparency helps customers make informed purchasing decisions while strengthening trust between operators and subscribers.

Complaint Resolution Remains an Opportunity

Despite positive overall results, the survey identified areas where further progress is needed.

Complaint resolution remains one of the key opportunities for improvement, alongside increasing public awareness of available telecommunications services and the regulatory protections available to consumers.

Improving dispute resolution processes and consumer education can enhance confidence in the telecommunications sector while supporting a more competitive and customer-centric marketplace.

Evidence-Based Regulation Supports Market Development

The Consumer Experience Survey forms part of the TRA’s broader market monitoring programme aimed at improving service quality and strengthening consumer protection.

According to TRA General Director Philip Marnick, the findings provide an evidence base that helps both regulators and licensed operators better understand customer expectations while identifying opportunities to enhance service quality and promote effective competition.

TRA Director of Consumer and Communications Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamoud Al Khalifa noted that the survey evaluates the complete customer journey, from selecting services and using networks to receiving customer support and resolving complaints, providing operators with valuable benchmarks for improving customer experience.

Why This Matters

The TRA’s latest survey demonstrates that Bahrain’s telecommunications sector continues to mature through sustained investments in network infrastructure and customer experience. Improvements in coverage, transparency and digital service delivery indicate that operators are responding to evolving consumer expectations while supporting the country’s wider digital transformation objectives.

For telecom operators, the findings provide measurable benchmarks to guide future investments in customer support, service quality and digital engagement. For consumers, the survey reinforces the importance of transparent regulation and continuous service improvements in maintaining a competitive telecommunications market.

Editor’s Note

As telecommunications services become increasingly central to digital economies, customer experience has emerged as a critical measure of network performance alongside traditional technical metrics such as speed and coverage. Bahrain’s Consumer Experience Survey illustrates how regulators are using data-driven assessments to shape policy, encourage competition and improve service standards. Going forward, areas such as AI-powered customer support, digital self-service platforms and faster complaint resolution will become key differentiators as operators compete to deliver more seamless and customer-centric digital experiences.
