Ericsson Hosts Technology Days in Morocco to Highlight 5G’s Role in Digital Transformation

From December 3rd to December 6th, Ericsson held its Technology Days in Rabat and Casablanca, bringing together telecom industry stakeholders to explore the transformative potential of 5G technology in Morocco’s digital landscape. The event aligns with Morocco’s ambitious Digital Morocco 2030 initiative, which includes the rollout of 5G technology across the country.

The event attracted customers, regulators, local operators, industry partners, and media, who were able to participate in live demonstrations showcasing the power of 5G. Key highlights included immersive sports fan engagement, AI-driven network performance optimization, and 5G monetization through network slicing and Network Exposure.

Unlocking 5G’s Potential Across Sectors

The Technology Days provided a forum to discuss how 5G can impact various sectors in Morocco. In sports, 5G is poised to revolutionize fan experiences by enabling real-time interactions and improving live streaming of events. Discussions also centered around how communication service providers (CSPs) can utilize AI and Cognitive Software tools to automate network optimization, improving service quality and supporting economic growth.

The Growth of 5G in the MENA Region

Ericsson’s presentation of the November 2024 Ericsson Mobility Report highlighted significant growth in mobile subscriptions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with projections reaching 830 million by 2030. Of those, 60%—or 500 million—are expected to be 5G subscriptions, signaling a shift toward advanced connectivity as older 2G and 3G networks decline.

Collaboration and Future Prospects

Ericsson remains committed to working closely with local partners to drive the 5G rollout in Morocco, contributing to the country’s economic development and digital advancement.

Majda Lahlou Kassi, Vice President and Head of Ericsson West Africa & Morocco, noted that 5G will have a transformative impact on sectors such as sports, manufacturing, port operations, and mining by enabling real-time data exchange and boosting efficiencies. The Technology Days served as an important opportunity for stakeholders to meet with Ericsson experts and experience first-hand how 5G will shape the future of Morocco’s digital economy in alignment with the #AfricaInMotion vision.
