Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, recently met with Éric Chevallier, the French Ambassador to Cairo, to explore ways to attract greater French investment into Egypt’s expanding ICT sector, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI). The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties through collaborative programs and projects in the ICT field, particularly in digital outsourcing services.
Minister Talaat shared the progress made with French officials and business leaders, including the expansion of two major French companies’ operations in Egypt, which had resulted from prior discussions within the French Business Confederation (MEDEF). Talaat emphasized Egypt’s competitive advantages, such as a large pool of skilled, multilingual professionals, positioning the country as an attractive hub for outsourcing services and digital businesses.
The Minister also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to enhance youth capabilities in technical skills, foreign languages, and AI. He expressed a keen interest in collaborating with France to create an AI-powered platform aimed at improving French language skills among Egyptian professionals, helping them serve French-speaking markets more effectively.
Ambassador Chevallier praised Egypt’s skilled ICT workforce and the successful expansion of French companies in the sector. He invited Talaat to participate in the upcoming AI Summit on February 10-11, which will discuss AI’s role in the public good and global governance of emerging technologies. Talaat confirmed Egypt’s participation, eager to showcase the country’s AI achievements.
The Ambassador also invited the Ministry of Communications to be a key partner at a French business forum for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in May, which will focus on AI. Talaat expressed Egypt’s readiness to contribute by presenting its digital capacity-building programs, AI initiatives, and support for SMEs in the sector.
