CNN Expands Operations with New Hub in Qatar to Strengthen Middle East Coverage

CNN is set to launch a new operation in Media City, Qatar, in the second half of 2025. This expansion will complement CNN’s existing Middle East programming, adding to its regional hubs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The Qatar hub will focus on digital-first content, with a team producing innovative shows for CNN International.

This new operation aligns with CNN CEO Mark Thompson’s vision to pivot the network’s newsroom into a digital-first operation. The Qatar team will focus on publishing content for digital and social platforms, as well as producing a new weekly show that showcases the network’s editorial commitment to the Middle East.

Mike McCarthy, Executive Vice President & Managing Editor of CNN Worldwide, emphasized the importance of the new hub in enhancing CNN’s coverage from the region. It will provide cutting-edge facilities and expand the network’s ability to report on diverse Middle East stories.

His Excellency Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of Media City Qatar, welcomed CNN’s addition to the media ecosystem, highlighting Qatar’s growing influence in shaping global conversations from the heart of the Middle East. CNN will also offer training in journalism and production to young professionals in Qatar, further contributing to the region’s media development.
