The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), under the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, has launched a strategic initiative to improve telecommunications coverage across Dubai’s waters. The project involves installing four advanced telecommunications towers to ensure network coverage in key maritime areas such as Dubai Islands, The World Islands, Palm Jebel Ali, and Dubai Waterfront.
Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the DMA, stated that the project aligns with Dubai’s vision to become a premier global maritime hub. “Our participation in this initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing Dubai’s status as a leading center for maritime navigation, luxury yachts, and recreational marine activities,” he said.
The announcement was made during the Dubai International Boat Show, where the DMA presented the “Dubai Waterways Telecom Network Coverage” project. This initiative is designed to enhance the telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring reliable connectivity for maritime operations and leisure activities alike.
In collaboration with key partners, the project aims to address existing connectivity gaps in Dubai’s maritime regions. The enhanced network will support commercial vessels, recreational boaters, and emergency services by providing communication channels essential for safety and operational efficiency.
This development is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to integrate advanced technologies into the maritime sector. By improving telecommunications infrastructure, the DMA hopes to attract regional and international maritime businesses, boosting investment and reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a competitive maritime capital. The initiative also complements prior efforts to streamline maritime operations, such as the agreement signed with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority to simplify vessel authorization processes.
