Starlink in Talks with Morocco to Deploy Satellites Over the Sahara

Starlink, the satellite internet provider owned by Elon Musk, has initiated negotiations with Moroccan authorities to deploy its satellites over the Sahara. According to Africa Intelligence, discussions began in the summer of 2024 and intensified during the Qatar-Africa Business Forum held in Marrakech in November 2024.

Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink, led the negotiations on behalf of the company during the forum. The deployment of Starlink’s services in the Moroccan Sahara is contingent upon approval from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), as reported.
