Bahrain’s iGA Releases Updated Card Reader Software for Seamless Data Access

The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has urged banks and institutions across both the public and private sectors to download the latest version of the card reader software, now available on Bahrain’s National Portal, bahrain.bh.

This updated software enables a wide range of institutions, including healthcare, education, banking, and telecommunications, to seamlessly read data from both the newly redesigned ID cards and previous versions. This ensures smooth processing of transactions that require access to citizen and resident data.

For further information or inquiries, entities can submit their questions through the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul) or via the Tawasul app.

The revamped ID card introduces enhanced security features and expanded digital transaction capabilities. Bahrain becomes the first Gulf country to activate a travel application within the ID card’s chip, in coordination with the Nationality, Passports & Residence Affairs. The card, made of durable polycarbonate, is resistant to scratches, heat, and environmental factors. Data is securely engraved using laser technology, ensuring heightened security.
