Egypt’s Prime Minister Reviews Progress on National Digital Transformation Goals

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, convened a meeting on Sunday to assess the progress of the country’s national digital transformation objectives. During the meeting, Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering electronic government services, aiming to improve citizen access and streamline procedures. He also emphasized the need to automate company establishment and licensing processes, calling for a detailed plan with specific timelines for full digitisation.

The meeting was attended by Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and other officials from relevant ministries and agencies. Talaat provided an update on the services available through the Egypt Digital platform, highlighting that services such as traffic violation inquiries are now exclusively offered on the platform. Efforts are underway to digitise additional services that currently require in-person visits, such as notarisation, and plans are in place to introduce new exclusive services soon.

Talaat also noted that these initiatives are complemented by efforts to improve digital infrastructure, ensuring continuity and expansion of services. The Prime Minister was informed that further details of upcoming services would be shared with him shortly.

Madbouly also stressed the importance of the Ministerial Committee for Social Justice’s decision on the Unified Services Card. He emphasized the need to implement the card system immediately in Port Said, with all necessary technical requirements for a smooth roll-out. Talaat also highlighted a recent meeting with the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade regarding the Unified Support Services Card, which will be introduced in Port Said Governorate. The card will enable access to various services, including health insurance, supply subsidies, and social protection, all managed through smartphones to eliminate the need for a physical card.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has reaffirmed its collaboration with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to streamline company establishment procedures. This partnership aims to improve the efficiency of the current system and fully automate business processes, further driving the government’s digital transformation objectives. Officials from the Ministry of Investment and other relevant agencies provided updates on their efforts to digitise investor services via an electronic platform, ensuring smoother and more efficient procedures for businesses.
