Pakistan has reached a major digital milestone, surpassing 200 million mobile subscriptions. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will officially announce this achievement during a national ceremony organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
The event, initially scheduled for today, was postponed due to the Prime Minister’s unavailability but will now take place on May 16 or 17, 2025. The ceremony will feature updates on official PTA figures.
To celebrate this accomplishment, PTA is collaborating with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Device Manufacturers (MDMs) to offer public-focused initiatives. MNOs have pledged free data and voice bundles for subscribers across the country on the event day, recognizing the public’s contribution to this milestone.
Additionally, the PTA has invited MDMs to contribute 10 to 15 mid-range smartphones for distribution to event attendees through a lucky draw, symbolizing the industry’s commitment to digital inclusion and helping bridge the connectivity gap in underserved communities.
