Algeria and Huawei Forge Strategic Partnership to Modernize Vocational Training in ICT

Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, Algeria’s Minister of Vocational Training and Education, presided over a ceremony in Algiers on Thursday to sign a memorandum of understanding with Huawei. This strategic partnership aims to develop skills in information and communication technology (ICT) while aligning vocational training programs with the evolving digital job market.

The signing event was attended by prominent figures including Dong Guangli, Ambassador of China to Algeria; Eason Yi, CEO of Huawei Algeria; Abdelouahab Gaoua, president of the Group of Algerian Digital Actors (GAAN); and other technology sector stakeholders.

Minister Oualid emphasized that the memorandum, encompassing three protocols, is part of a broader initiative to modernize vocational training by integrating artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other advanced technologies. Starting next September, the collaboration will provide vocational trainees with high-quality training in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI, culminating in a diploma jointly issued by the Ministry and Huawei.

The minister also highlighted efforts to support Algeria’s digital transformation, including the introduction of nearly 30 new digital technology specialties for the upcoming academic year. The partnership focuses on three key institutions: the National Specialized Institute for ICT in Rahmania, the National Institute for Vocational Training (INSFP) in Bousmail, and the African Institute for Vocational Training in Boumerdès.

Chinese Ambassador Dong Guangli noted that 8,000 Algerian students have benefited from previous training programs under Algeria-Huawei cooperation. The new memorandum will expand training capacities at the three academies, enhancing knowledge exchange and fostering future projects in AI, IT, and 5G technologies.

Huawei Algeria’s CEO, Eason Yi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Algeria’s professional training sector by delivering quality training to both students and educators.
