Qatar Records QR11.59 Billion in Card Payment Transactions in April 2025, Driven by PoS and E-Commerce Growth

Doha, Qatar – Qatar’s card payment ecosystem saw a robust performance in April 2025, with the total value of transactions through point of sale (PoS) terminals and e-commerce platforms reaching QR11.59 billion, according to the latest data from Qatar Central Bank (QCB).

E-commerce transactions accounted for QR3.54 billion across 8.95 million transactions, while PoS transactions reached a value of approximately QR8.05 billion with 40.11 million transactions. The PoS system supports advanced payment methods including contactless cards, e-wallets, mobile PoS (mPoS), QR code scanners, and online billing, ensuring secure and efficient payment processing.

Qatar’s e-commerce market is on a steady growth path, with forecasts anticipating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% through 2028, highlighting the country’s expanding digital economy.

The QCB’s Instant Transfer System statistics for April revealed the Fawran instant payment service recorded 1.3 million transactions valued at QR2.11 billion, with 3.03 million registered accounts. Meanwhile, mobile payment wallets numbered 1.31 million, processing transactions worth QR166.08 million across roughly 174,000 transactions.

Overall, QCB reported that total transaction values across all payment channels amounted to QR13.86 billion in April, spread over 50.54 million transactions. PoS accounted for 58% of the transaction value, e-commerce for 26%, the Fawran instant payment service 15%, and mobile payments 1%.

Fawran, a key component of Qatar’s Third Financial Sector Strategic Plan, is an instant payment system designed to facilitate fast, secure, and round-the-clock money transfers between individuals and businesses. This service significantly reduces transfer times and improves financial transaction efficiency, accessible via mobile banking and digital platforms.

QCB’s continuous efforts to enhance payment infrastructure underscore its commitment to meeting the growing demand for fintech services, fostering a dynamic digital payment ecosystem in Qatar.
