The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) announced that mobile users will receive 1 GB of free data, while fixed internet users will get 10 GB on their landlines following widespread service disruptions caused by a fire at Cairo’s Ramses Central telecommunications exchange. If fixed-line service remains unstable, affected users can opt for 5 GB of free mobile data instead.
The fire, which broke out on the seventh floor of the exchange building, resulted in four worker fatalities and injured at least 27 others. Preliminary investigations point to an electrical short circuit as the cause, with a full technical report pending.
The NTRA affirmed its commitment to maintaining service quality and preventing future disruptions through necessary measures.
