Google Pay is now available in Oman, enabling Android users to make contactless payments via supported websites and mobile apps. Sohar International Bank is the sole financial institution supporting the service, allowing customers with international debit, credit, and prepaid cards to use Google Pay through the Google Wallet app on Android devices running version 9 or later.
While contactless purchases are enabled, features like peer-to-peer transfers and payments for some domestic services are not yet available in Oman. Google highlights layered security measures, including unique virtual card numbers per device and transaction-specific dynamic codes.
Google Pay’s launch builds on Oman’s evolving digital payments landscape, which saw the introduction of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay in 2024. These developments align with the Central Bank of Oman’s strategy to promote digital transactions and reduce cash dependency, supporting initiatives such as QR code payments and card data tokenization.
Additionally, in June 2025, Klarna integrated with Google Pay to offer flexible payment solutions on select Android apps and websites, expanding its presence and promoting responsible spending.
