The UAE has officially named its first-ever virtual Emirati family member following a nationwide community vote. Nearly 14,000 people participated in the campaign, choosing between three names for the AI-powered girl character. Latifa won with 43% of the votes, ahead of Mira (37%) and Dubai (20%).
Latifa was unveiled as part of a digital Emirati family that includes her father Mohammed, mother Salama, and brother Rashid. Designed in traditional attire with a modern twist, Latifa is portrayed as warm and approachable, particularly for children and families, fostering dialogue about AI, technology, and digital services.
This initiative, launched by Digital Dubai under the UAE’s “Year of the Community” announced by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, represents the country’s first digital model inspired by Emirati values. The virtual family aims to connect with diverse audiences in multiple languages, serving as “digital ambassadors” to promote safe and responsible digital behavior.
Latifa and her family will soon appear across social media platforms, engaging citizens through storytelling content that reflects Dubai’s digital life and showcases the city’s ongoing innovation initiatives.
