Nepal Telecom (NTC) has rolled out 4G services in several remote areas of Manang, replacing older 2G coverage and significantly improving connectivity for locals, businesses, and tourists. The move marks a major step in the state-backed operator’s nationwide digital expansion plan.
Expanded Coverage
NTC launched 4G in Ngisyang Rural Municipality’s Pisang (ward 1), Dawal (ward 3), Tanki Manang (ward 8), and Khangsar (ward 9) on Ashoj 04, 2082. Additional coverage was added in Koto Gaun, Chame Rural Municipality (ward 3), and Talgaun, Nasong Rural Municipality (ward 1), which also serves the Chamche region in Lamjung district.
To achieve this, NTC upgraded its transmission from VSAT to high-capacity microwave and fiber links, enabling efficient operation of 4G towers. It also established an ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) Link between Besisahar and Khangsar to overcome difficult terrain.
Improved Connectivity
The upgrades bring faster mobile broadband, VoLTE for HD voice, and Namaste WiFi services for hotels where fixed-line internet is unavailable. The move enhances tourism, supports local businesses, and improves communication for residents in remote regions.
Future Plans
NTC has announced plans to extend 4G further to Tilicho Base Camp and Thorongfedi. With these efforts, the company is close to achieving its target of providing 4G services across all 753 local levels in Nepal by 2082, except in a few villages still dependent on VSAT.
