The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in partnership with Qatar Tourism, organized a specialized workshop under the national SMEs Go Digital Program to accelerate digital adoption in the tourism sector. The initiative highlighted the growing role of digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening hotels and tour operators across the country.
The workshop demonstrated how AI can enhance customer experiences, streamline operations, and unlock new growth opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Participants explored practical use cases of emerging technologies tailored to the needs of the tourism industry.
Faraj Jassim Abdulla, Director of the Digital Economy Department at MCIT, emphasized that the program is a cornerstone of Qatar’s strategy to build a sustainable digital economy. He noted that the initiative provides not only technical solutions but also an integrated support system—including digital assessments, transformation roadmaps, and access to service providers—empowering SMEs to innovate and expand into local and global markets.
Omar al-Jaber, Chief of Tourism Development at Qatar Tourism, added that AI integration within Qatar Tourism’s platforms is central to strengthening service quality. He stressed the importance of partners adopting digital solutions to position Qatar as a world-class destination.
This session was part of a broader series under the SMEs Digital Transformation Program, targeting key sectors such as education, healthcare, retail, logistics, and tourism. The program aligns with the Digital Agenda 2030 by fostering a digitally driven business ecosystem. It also offers SMEs training, tailored technology offers, and potential financial support via Qatar Development Bank, ensuring they are well-prepared for a digital-first future.
Through these efforts, Qatar aims to embed digital innovation into the heart of its tourism sector, enabling SMEs to become vital contributors to national growth and competitiveness.
