Jordan’s land cargo handling surged by 37.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 10.5 million tonnes, according to the Ministry of Transport’s latest Transport Sector Performance Indicators Report. The figure also marks a 37.4% increase from the first quarter of 2025, reflecting strong growth across exports and transit shipments.
Land cargo handling covers all goods transported by trucks via Jordan’s land border crossings, including imports, exports, and transit shipments that pass through the country without entering the domestic market.
The report, cited by Al Mamlaka TV, showed a notable rise in exports, which jumped 82.5% year-on-year to 6.55 million tonnes—a 95.1% increase from Q1 2025. Transit cargo volumes also climbed 18.5% compared with Q2 2024, reaching 2.34 million tonnes, and 8.1% compared with the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, imported goods transported by land slightly decreased by 2.2% year-on-year, totaling 3.95 million tonnes, though they rose 26.1% compared with Q1 2025.
Truck traffic also expanded significantly. Inbound trucks increased 23.4% year-on-year and 6.7% quarter-on-quarter, totaling 155,949, while outbound trucks grew 28.8% annually and 14.5% from the previous quarter, reaching 158,602.
The report also highlighted developments in Jordan’s road freight industry structure between Q2 2024 and Q2 2025:
- Container transport companies: up 2.6% to 120
- General freight companies: up 5.4% to 156
- Refrigerated transport companies: up 33.3% to 12
- Livestock transport companies: up 25% to 5
- Heavy transport companies: down 10% to 9
- Car transport companies: stable at 9
The Ministry said these figures underline the resilience and expansion of Jordan’s logistics and export sectors amid ongoing efforts to strengthen trade connectivity across regional corridors.
