Volz, an Algeria-based traveltech platform focused on making flight bookings more accessible through local payment methods, has raised 600 million Algerian dinars (nearly US$5 million) in what is reported to be the largest startup funding round raised in dinars in the country. Founded in 2023 in Blida by Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi and Hacene Seghier, Volz enables travelers to book flights using dinar-based online payments or cash-on-delivery options.
The platform has recorded more than 1,000 percent growth in a single year, driven by a model tailored to local market realities. Its offering includes multi-airline booking, hybrid payment options, and strong customer support designed to build trust in a complex and fragmented payments environment.
The funding round was led by Algiers-based Tell Group, with participation from Groupe Industriel Babahoum Algérie (GIBA). Announced during the African Startup Conference held in Algiers in December 2025, the investment also marks the first successful exit for the government-backed Algerian Startup Fund (ASF), which achieved a return of more than 3.35x on its initial investment in Volz.
Speaking to Inc. Arabia, co-founder Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi described the exit as a milestone for both Volz and Algeria’s wider startup ecosystem, highlighting it as proof that venture-backed startups in the country can scale and deliver meaningful returns. He emphasized that investor confidence was driven by Volz’s strong traction, market understanding, and ability to solve a real customer pain point at scale.
Mezi added that Volz’s mission is centered on empowering travelers by making flight booking reliable, accessible, and convenient in markets where traditional models fall short. This required addressing challenges such as fragmented payments, trust barriers, and user experience design tailored to local needs.
With the new capital, Volz plans to expand its product offerings within Algeria while scaling into additional markets across North and West Africa. The company is also developing a corporate travel solution aimed at helping businesses better manage travel operations.
Volz’s founders say the company’s journey underscores the importance of solving local problems with locally adapted solutions rather than replicating global models without validation.
