Oman launches digital platform for booking tourism packages

Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has launched a new digital platform on its official tourism website, Experience Oman, enabling travellers and travel agents to book complete tourism packages through a single unified system. The initiative marks a significant step in the sultanate’s ongoing digital transformation of its tourism sector.

The platform brings together more than 200 tourism service providers, offering access to over 350 experiences, 56 curated tourism packages, and more than 140 hotels and resorts. Designed as a central gateway for both travellers and trade partners, the system allows agents to build and confirm full itineraries including accommodation, transport, guided tours, adventure activities and other tourism services through a streamlined booking process.

The initiative aims to strengthen the international reach of local tourism operators and small and medium-sized enterprises by connecting them directly with global markets. By consolidating offerings into one digital ecosystem, the platform simplifies trip planning while improving visibility for local businesses across Oman’s tourism value chain.

Aligned with Oman’s broader tourism strategy, the platform also supports sports and event-driven tourism initiatives, including packages linked to the Ironman championship hosted annually in Muscat through 2031. The approach is intended to increase visitor numbers, extend average stay durations and encourage repeat travel by positioning Oman as a destination for endurance sports and active holidays.

The launch complements Visit Oman’s trade-focused initiatives, including a recently introduced free online training programme for travel agents delivered through Online Travel Training (OTT). The course is designed to enhance product knowledge and help agents build tailored itineraries using the expanded inventory available on Experience Oman.

Oman Tourism continues to expand its investment in travel technology, with development arm Omran recently investing $7 million in UnderTheDoormat Group to support digital connectivity between local property owners and global booking platforms. In parallel, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is preparing to roll out a separate digital platform connecting licensed Omani tourist guides with international travellers, supporting reservations, payments and content creation through global distribution channels.

Tourism is projected to contribute 5% to Oman’s GDP by 2030 and 10% by 2040. The Ministry reported 3.9 million international visitors in 2025, representing a 3% year-on-year increase, underscoring the growing importance of digital platforms in supporting the sector’s long-term growth.
