Qatar to Expand Its Presence in Telecommunications Market of Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Moutaz Al-Khayyat, Board Chairman of Power International Holding (PIH), and Ramez Al-Khayyat, Board Vice-Chairman and President, at the Akorda to discuss prospects for joint investment projects in energy and telecommunications.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed opportunities to strengthen Kazakh-Qatari cooperation, particularly in large-scale gas projects related to processing, transportation, and energy production. President Tokayev emphasized that these initiatives represent a key pillar of bilateral investment cooperation and play a vital role in reinforcing Kazakhstan’s energy security.

The President was also briefed on PIH’s plans to expand its footprint in Kazakhstan’s telecommunications sector through the acquisition of Mobile Telecom Service (Tele2). Tokayev expressed confidence that PIH’s involvement would support the modernization of telecommunications infrastructure, enhance service quality, and improve accessibility for citizens across the country.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to advancing strategic cooperation and implementing high-potential investment projects across priority sectors.
