Aramco and SLB Forge Partnership to Advance Digital Solutions for GHG Emission Reduction

Aramco and SLB have entered into a pivotal agreement to co-develop and commercialize digital solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across various industrial sectors. These innovative solutions will be integrated into SLB’s digital sustainability platform, which was initially unveiled in 2022.

The platform is designed to help industrial firms accelerate their journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by facilitating the measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) of their emissions. This comprehensive data approach not only ensures compliance but also supports strategic decarbonization initiatives, such as improving energy efficiency, reducing methane emissions, and enhancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects.

Rakesh Jaggi, President of Digital and Integration at SLB, emphasized the crucial role of data in driving transparency and informed decision-making in emissions reduction. “Our digital sustainability platform harnesses data at scale to effectively reduce emissions, and we are excited to enhance our offerings through collaboration with Aramco’s innovative technologies.”

The partnership outlines a framework for the development of several digital solutions, including Aramco’s proprietary Combined Heat Power (CHP) optimization technology and Flare Monitoring System (FMS). These are expected to enhance energy efficiency and mitigate field emissions. Additionally, a novel co-developed decarbonization planning solution will aid in forecasting emissions and simulating scenarios to identify optimal paths for GHG mitigation.

Walid Al Naeem, Aramco Engineering VP & Chief Engineer, highlighted the significance of integrating Aramco’s internally developed technologies with SLB’s platform to address global market needs. “This agreement is a testament to our ongoing efforts to reduce GHG emissions and our commitment to bring our expertise to a wider audience.”

This collaboration also emphasizes talent development and the localization of technologies within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, demonstrating both companies’ commitment to reducing GHG emissions and fostering local expertise.
