ISLAMABAD – In a landmark development for Pakistan’s digital landscape, Jazz is set to become the first telecom operator in the country to completely phase out its 3G services by November 2024. This transition is part of Jazz’s broader initiative, “4G for All,” aimed at expanding high-speed mobile broadband access nationwide.
The decision to retire the 3G network will enable the repurposing of spectrum, enhancing 4G coverage, speed, and overall capacity. According to the company, this shift not only strengthens Jazz’s service offerings but also supports the nation’s goals for digital transformation and economic growth through improved communication infrastructure.
Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, emphasized the importance of this move, stating, “Sunsetting 3G underscores our commitment to delivering the best-in-class digital experience. Our ‘4G for All’ vision is key to empowering individuals and businesses across Pakistan in a digitally connected world.”
He also highlighted that this transition aligns with Jazz’s evolution towards becoming a Service Company, focusing on digital solutions that enhance access to healthcare, education, and financial services.
Currently, Jazz serves 71 million cellular users and 51 million mobile broadband customers, making it the largest telecom operator in Pakistan. The shift to an exclusively 4G-enabled network is expected to improve mobile internet speeds and call quality while meeting the changing needs of consumers with innovative digital solutions.
