Salalah, Oman – Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure, has officially opened its new data center in Salalah, Oman. This facility, named SN1, marks a significant milestone in enhancing global connectivity and establishing Oman as a strategic interconnectivity hub.
Built in partnership with Omantel, a leading telecom and technology provider in the Middle East, SN1 is a carrier-neutral and open access Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data center. It is Equinix’s second data center in Oman, following the success of MC1 in Muscat, and its sixth in the Middle East.
“I’m delighted to inaugurate our latest strategic data center, further showcasing our investment in Oman and the wider Middle East,” said Kamel al-Tawil, Managing Director of Equinix for the MENA region.
SN1’s strategic location in Salalah optimizes key connectivity routes, offering businesses and service providers across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia more direct and cost-effective access to global markets. The facility will also feature direct fiber connectivity to Equinix’s MC1 data center in Muscat, further enhancing regional connectivity.
“The launch of the SN1 data center is a corner stone of our strategy to create a global connectivity hub in Salalah,” said Talal al Mamari, CEO of Omantel.
Omantel has invested significantly in international networks and data centers over the past decade, attracting global hyperscalers to establish regional hubs in Oman. The company plans to land multiple subsea cables in Salalah by next year, further solidifying its position as a major connectivity hub.
This new data center will reshape global traffic flows, reducing latency and improving the resilience of global networks. It will also provide a platform for carriers, hyperscalers, content providers, and cloud service providers to co-locate their critical infrastructure and enhance their operations in the region.
The opening of SN1 reinforces Equinix’s commitment to expanding its global footprint and creating interconnected ecosystems that support digital transformation. By establishing this strategic hub in Salalah, Equinix is contributing to Oman’s vision of becoming a leading digital economy in the Middle East.
