ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving $25 billion in IT exports over the next three years and emphasized efforts to advance the telecommunications sector.
During a meeting with a VEON Group delegation, led by Chairman Augie K Fabela, the prime minister discussed the government’s ongoing efforts to roll out 5G internet services, aiming to provide high-speed, reliable connectivity nationwide, including in remote areas. The introduction of 5G technology is seen as a crucial step in the government’s broader vision for a “Digital Pakistan.”
The prime minister also highlighted the essential role of the telecommunications sector in transitioning Pakistan toward a cashless, digital economy. He praised VEON’s subsidiary, Jazz, for its significant contributions to Pakistan’s telecom and fintech landscape. In addition, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed the government’s interest in collaborating with VEON on various initiatives, including IT development, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.
