Qatar’s CRA Issues Fifth Version of Class License for Short-Range Devices

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has released the fifth version of the Class License for Short-Range Devices, following a review of feedback from stakeholders and the public consultation document posted on the CRA’s website in the second quarter of this year.

This update reflects CRA’s commitment to keeping pace with rapid advancements in radiocommunication technologies and ensuring that frequency bands for short-range devices intended for use in Qatar align with international standards and technical specifications. The new Class License introduces additional frequency bands and provides greater flexibility regarding permitted transmit power values.

These changes will facilitate the import and use of a broader range of short-range devices and applications across Qatar, benefiting various sectors and consumers. The updated license aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, which emphasize enhancing residents’ quality of life and providing services that meet global standards.

The previous draft of the Class License was shared for public consultation, allowing stakeholders to offer input on the proposed updates. After considering these contributions, the CRA has finalized and published the fifth version, which replaces the fourth version issued in June 2021.
