STC Group Launches Data Center Park and 2Africa Pearl Subsea Cable in Bahrain

STC Group, through its subsidiaries STC Bahrain and Center3, has announced the construction of a major data center park and the inauguration of the 2Africa Pearl subsea cable system in Bahrain. These projects, with a combined investment of $300 million, aim to expand STC Group’s international presence and support Bahrain’s Vision 2030 for economic growth.

The data center park, under construction in Al Qurain, spans 55,000 sqm and will offer 60MW of IT capacity upon completion. It aligns with Bahrain’s sustainability goals, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. The exact completion timeline for the data center has not yet been disclosed.

In addition to the data center park, STC Bahrain also launched the 2Africa Pearl submarine cable system, an extension of the existing 45,000km 2Africa cable network. This new cable, with a capacity of 180 Tbps, connects Bahrain to multiple countries, including Oman, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Saudi Arabia. The 2Africa Pearl system is expected to go live later this year.

STC Group, the parent company of Saudi Telecom, is focused on transforming digital infrastructure, having already committed to major projects with Korea Telecom and Hyundai in Saudi Arabia. Its subsidiary Center3 currently operates eight data centers in Saudi Arabia and has partnered with DataVolt to expand its operations. Additionally, earlier this week, Batelco and Qareeb unveiled their own plans for a data center facility in Bahrain.
