Tataouine, Tunisia – Tunisie Telecom, the national telecommunications operator, has launched a new program to expand its fiber optic network in the Tataouine region. This initiative, representing an investment of 500,000 dinars (about $160,000), will connect 2,900 homes and nearly 7,000 users in the city center.
The project is part of Tunisie Telecom’s broader strategy to expand and modernize its fiber optic network across the country. The company’s network currently spans approximately 50,000 km and plays a crucial role in providing fixed internet connectivity.
This expansion in Tataouine is expected to significantly improve internet access and service quality in the region. By enhancing its infrastructure, Tunisie Telecom aims to strengthen its position in the fixed fiber optic internet market.
“The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand and modernize its fiber optic network across the entire Tunisian territory,” stated the report, highlighting the company’s commitment to nationwide network improvement.
According to data from the National Telecommunications Institute (INT), Tunisie Telecom held a 21.1% market share in the fiber optic internet segment as of July 31, 2024. This expansion will enable the company to compete more effectively with its main rivals, Ooredoo Internet and Topnet, which currently hold larger market shares.
Tunisie Telecom plans to continue its network deployment in the Tataouine region in 2025, with 22 additional fiber optic connection projects planned across various areas.
