Global Social Media Forum Opens in Amman, Discusses the Future of Digital Media

AMMAN – The Global Social Media Forum opened on Thursday under the theme “The Future of Media in a Digital-First World.” The event brought together over 350 participants from various media sectors, including journalists, content creators, and digital platform representatives.

In his keynote address, Minister of Government Communications and Official Government Spokesperson Mohammed Momani, moderated by journalist Hazem Rahahleh, discussed the ongoing shift from traditional to digital media. Momani emphasized the increasing demand for interactive and responsive content, particularly on social media platforms. He also highlighted the challenges posed by misinformation, fake news, and hate speech in the digital media landscape, noting that some online campaigns are deliberately designed to destabilize societies.

To combat these issues, Momani called for stronger digital safeguards to protect public discourse and urged influencers and social media personalities to provide accurate, fact-based information responsibly and objectively. “Ethical standards in digital media are essential to protecting society from harmful and divisive content,” he stressed.

Momani also praised Jordan’s balanced media approach, which promotes both freedom and responsibility. He encouraged Arab countries to follow Jordan’s model, which the Arab League has recognized as exemplary in the region for media and information literacy.

Ayman Rasheed, Executive Director of the Forum, described the event as a vital platform for media professionals and influencers to explore emerging trends, address challenges, and share innovative solutions. Rasheed also commended Jordan’s leadership in media, despite political and social challenges in the region.

The forum opened with a video titled “A Journey Where the Most Precious Asset is the Individual Citizen,” which showcased Jordan’s leadership under His Majesty King Abdullah in advancing public opinion, humanitarian aid, and support for the Palestinian cause.

Discussions at the event focused on key issues in digital media, including innovation, the role of artificial intelligence in communication, content creation, and storytelling.
