Safaricom Ethiopia has expanded its 4G network to Tepi, Aksum, Adwa, and Geja, bringing faster and more reliable mobile connectivity to more communities. The move strengthens digital access for residents and businesses, supporting communication, economic activity, and Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation ambitions.
Safaricom and Standard Bank are investing $138 million to accelerate Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure rollout, supported by Vodacom’s increased stake. Safaricom now serves 62 million users regionally and 10.1 million in Ethiopia. The partnership aims to expand digital and financial inclusion, empower communities and position Ethiopia as a rising tech powerhouse.
Ethio Telecom and ZTE have rolled out 152 rural base stations, extending 2G–4G connectivity to over one million people in remote Ethiopian regions. Using modular, solar-powered technology, the project cuts construction costs and accelerates deployment while supporting services like Telebirr. The expansion strengthens national coverage as Ethio Telecom targets major revenue growth.
