Iraq is modernizing its digital infrastructure through nationwide fiber-to-the-home expansion and a new submarine cable link. These initiatives will boost internet capacity, reduce costs, and position Iraq as a regional hub via the “Iraqi Corridor,” advancing both economic growth and global connectivity integration.
Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, met with Meta representatives to discuss the expansion of fiber optic infrastructure across Iraq to enhance telecommunications and internet services. They also explored further collaboration in digital transformation, personal security, and publishing regulations.
Egypt, Telecom Egypt, and Hengtong have signed an agreement to establish a $15 million fiber optic cable factory in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The factory will produce 3 million kilometers of fiber optic cables annually, strengthening Egypt’s telecommunications infrastructure and boosting exports to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
