Omantel and GlobalTech Corporation have signed a non-binding MoU to explore collaboration on AI and Big Data services. The partnership aims to develop AI-driven solutions for sectors including fintech, retail, compliance, and HR, leveraging Omantel’s infrastructure and GlobalTech’s expertise. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, this initiative supports economic diversification and technological innovation, aiming to enhance digital transformation and strengthen Oman’s position as a regional technology hub.
Omantel has reported a rise in cyber and telecom threats targeting its subscriber base in 2024. The company successfully blocked millions of attacks, utilizing AI-driven security measures. Its mobile and broadband subscriber growth helped increase domestic revenue. Omantel continues to enhance its cybersecurity posture, securing its 5G and cloud infrastructure.
Omantel’s market share dropped by five percentage points in 2024 to 48% of Oman’s telecom market, leading to a 3% decrease in net profit, which amounted to $795 million. Competitors such as Ooredoo, Vodafone, and Awasr gained ground, impacting Omantel’s position in the country’s telecom sector.
Omantel won two awards at the Oman CSR Summit & Awards 2024, recognized for its “Maqroo” initiative, the first Arabic dyslexic-friendly font, and for using AI-powered technology to improve healthcare, particularly cancer detection. These accolades highlight Omantel’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and inclusivity.
Omantel was recognized at the Business Today CXO Awards for its leadership in innovation, digital transformation, and technological advancement. CEO Talal Al Mamari and CFO Ghassan Al-Hashar received top awards for their exceptional leadership. Omantel continues to drive growth with strategic partnerships and investments in AI, cloud computing, and digital services.
Omantel’s financial results for the nine months ending September 30, 2024, showed a net profit of RO187.5 million and a 2.2% growth in revenues. Despite a decrease in domestic net profit due to investments in network expansion, the group remains on a solid growth trajectory, with Zain Group also posting strong revenues.
Omantel’s “Innovative Media” initiative successfully trained 200 media professionals in Oman, focusing on artificial intelligence to boost the digital economy. Workshops held in Muscat and Dhofar provided practical AI skills, helping participants integrate new technologies into their media work. The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040’s digital goals.
Omantel and Zain Omantel International are co-hosting the 11th annual Global Carrier Community Meeting (GCCM) in Muscat on November 5th and 6th. The event will showcase Salalah’s growth as a connectivity hub and feature masterclasses from Google and AWS, aligning with Oman’s Vision 2040.
