Huawei Cloud Expands with New Cairo Region and Arabic Language Model

Huawei Cloud has announced the launch of its new Cairo Region, which will serve 28 African countries. This deployment aims to offer innovative, reliable, secure, and flexible cloud services to individuals, corporate, and government users.

Services and Offerings

The Huawei Cloud platform will provide a range of services, including the DataArts data governance pipeline, GaussDB database, and ModelArts AI development pipeline. These offerings are designed to support various digital transformation initiatives across the continent.

Enhancing Digital Transformation

Jacqueline Shi, President of Global Marketing and Sales Services at Huawei Cloud, highlighted the significance of the Cairo Region launch: “With the Cairo Region, we are bringing our most innovative technologies to the country to further support Egypt in unlocking the potential of digital transformation. Furthermore, the launch of the Cairo Region is an important step in Huawei Cloud enhancing our services to customers across 28 African countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, and Algeria.”

New Arabic Language Model

In conjunction with the Cairo Region launch, Huawei has introduced a new Arabic ‘large language model’. This automatic speech recognition service covers over 20 Arabic-speaking countries, boasting an accuracy rate of 96 percent. The model has been trained with native Arabic data to ensure an accurate understanding of local culture, history, and customs.

A spokesperson for Huawei Cloud explained, “The model is part of Huawei Cloud’s Pangu model’s effort to support vertical industries with AI capabilities. The training is based on industry datasets covering digital power, oil and gas, finance, and more.”

Global Reach and Market Position

According to figures from research organization Canalys, Huawei is the second-largest cloud services provider in China and operates in 33 regions worldwide. The expansion into the Cairo Region underscores Huawei Cloud’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and supporting digital transformation across Africa.
