Huawei awarded the winners of its ICT competition ‘Women in Tech’ at an event in Dhaka on Tuesday. The competition, inspired by the theme “Tech for Her, Tech by Her, Tech with Her,” was launched in Bangladesh last year with UNESCO as the strategic partner. The aim is to develop local ICT talent and enable knowledge sharing among female STEM students and recent graduates.
From 750 participants, 18 were selected for the final round, which included individual and team-based competitions. Team-based ideas were evaluated based on their innovative use of ICT and potential for business success.
The winning teams were selected through a detailed evaluation process that considered the problem statements’ rationale, innovation, business case, and assignment scores. Individual winners were chosen based on interviews, exams, and project evaluations.
The champion team, ‘Dhara,’ focused on using solar energy and other technologies to ensure a safe water supply for households. The first runner-up, ‘Terra Bin,’ proposed turning waste into resources using solar composters and other technologies. The second runner-up, ‘Solnet,’ aimed to build and operate solar plants efficiently using cloud technology and apps.
The champion received Tk3 lakh, the first runner-up Tk2 lakh, and the second runner-up Tk1 lakh in prize money to implement their plans.
