A fascinating integration of satellite networks, artificial intelligence (AI), and 3D mapping is advancing Barrick Gold’s copper exploration at its Reko Diq project in Pakistan.
Fleet Space Technologies, an Australian space exploration company, has introduced its ExoSphere solution to Reko Diq. ExoSphere utilizes cutting-edge space technology, AI, and 3D multiphysics to create 3D subsurface maps of local groundwater systems and copper porphyry complexes across over 1,150 square kilometers of the project.
Flavia Tata Nardini, Co-Founder & CEO of Fleet Space Technologies, states: “By applying the latest innovations in space, AI, and 3D multiphysics to copper exploration, we demonstrate a more sustainable, scalable path to achieve the copper supply needed for our clean energy future, in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
Reko Diq is a strategic part of Barrick Gold’s copper portfolio and represents one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold projects. The area, part of the Tethyan Magmatic Arc in the Chagai mountain range, contains significant copper-gold ore deposits. Production is set to begin in 2028.
ExoSphere’s end-to-end architecture enhances exploration outcomes and streamlines operations by providing real-time 3D mapping and AI-powered drill targeting with near-zero environmental impact. Leveraging Fleet Space’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, smart seismic sensors with edge computing, and rapid data processing, ExoSphere offers a faster, more efficient data journey, enabling dynamic and precise exploration activities with actionable insights available to remote onsite teams in real time.
