Morocco on Track to Become a Leading Digital Nation in Africa

Speaking at a video conference, Mustapha Meloui, President of the Moroccan Observatory for Digital Sovereignty (OMSN), emphasized Morocco’s potential to transform into a premier “Digital Nation” in Africa. He outlined the Kingdom’s strategic advancements in digital development, backed by several national programs aimed at fostering digital growth.

Meloui highlighted four strategic pillars of Morocco’s digital ambition: creating a digital administration to serve citizens and businesses, fostering a competitive economy, promoting digital inclusion, and developing digital talent through high-quality training.

According to a recent report by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) published on December 15, 2023, Morocco boasts the highest development level in information and communication technologies (ICT) across Africa. The Kingdom’s impressive metrics include 92.8% of households having internet access and 90.7% mobile broadband coverage, surpassing the global averages significantly.

Furthermore, Meloui discussed the upcoming “Maroc Digital 2030” strategy, which aims to solidify Morocco’s position as a leading digital and technological hub in Africa. This comprehensive plan is expected to be a key driver in the country’s digital transformation journey.

The significant strides in Morocco’s digital landscape were showcased at the first edition of the “Let’s Talk Best Business” Forum in Abidjan, focusing on the crucial role of economic information in business development. This event underlined Morocco’s commitment to establishing itself as a benchmark for digital excellence on the continent.
